About the Workshop

This EMBO Workshop on Ovary Biology brings together basic scientists, clinicians, technologists, and early‑career researchers to advance understanding of ovarian biology and female reproductive health. Rapid developments in single‑cell technologies, in vitro culture platforms, in vitro gametogenesis, mechanobiology, environmental toxicology, and advanced imaging are transforming the field and creating new opportunities for translational impact. Building on these advances, this EMBO Workshop will cover a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from ovarian developmental biology across species to molecular interactions within the ovary, endocrine regulation, oocyte competence, aging, environmental exposures, fertility preservation, and emerging in vitro models.

This EMBO Workshop aims to foster cross‑disciplinary dialogue, strengthen European and international collaborations, and provide a platform for early‑career researchers to present their work through short talks, flash talks, poster sessions, and structured mentoring activities. By integrating basic mechanisms with clinical challenges and including sessions on advanced ovarian model systems and wildlife conservation, this EMBO Workshop promotes a holistic view of ovarian science. Through knowledge exchange and continuous community building, this EMBO Workshop seeks to accelerate innovation and contribute to solutions for global reproductive challenges affecting human health and biodiversity.

This EMBO Workshop on Ovary Biology will once again unite leading experts and emerging voices to explore the full spectrum of ovarian science, including:

  • Ovarian biology and folliculogenesis
  • Meiosis and germ cell development
  • Ovarian microenvironment and mechanobiology
  • In vitro gametogenesis and oocyte generation
  • Ovarian aging and rejuvenation strategies
  • Endocrinology and ovarian dysfunction
  • Environmental and lifestyle impacts on fertility
  • Fertility preservation and clinical translation
  • Wildlife and comparative reproductive biology

Transport

Lloret de Mar is well connected to the main public transportation networks in the area. The closest airport is Girona–Costa Brava Airport (GRO), situated 23 km away, with direct buses to Lloret that typically take between 35 and 45 minutes. Another key access point is Barcelona El Prat International Airport (BCN), located about 75–78 km from the Lloret de Mar. Several daily buses run directly from Terminal 2 at BCN to Lloret de Mar, with a travel time around 2 hours.

Participants arriving by train will need to go to Blanes Railway Station, which is linked to Barcelona via the R1 Rodalies line (the journey lasts around 1 hour and 20–25 minutes). From Blanes, frequent bus services reach Lloret in about 20 minutes. In addition, regular intercity buses provide connections between Lloret, Girona, Barcelona, and neighbouring coastal destinations. Taxis and shuttle services from both airports are also widely available.

The hotel has a few parking spaces at the entrance that you can use for a few minutes while checking in. For parking during your stay, the hotel has a paid, covered and supervised car park very close to the hotel. Unfortunately, spaces are limited and cannot be reserved. Please ask at Reception upon arrival.

About the Area

The hotel is located in the heart of Lloret de Mar. Five minutes’ walk from the beach or the shopping centre, and right in front of the bus station.

Sustainability at the meeting

The EMBO Courses & Workshops Programme assesses meetings based on the proposal and implementation of sustainability measures. Meetings can earn points across a range of measures, with each measure assigned a point value from one to five. These points classify the meeting into one of three sustainability levels, reflecting the organizers' commitment to enhancing the sustainability of their event. More information on the EMBO Courses & Workshops Sustainability Badge can be found here.

In our commitment to sustainability, this conference adopts several practices to reduce carbon footprint and foster more sustainable conference culture:
1. Recycling Name Tags: Attendees are encouraged to bring any old name tag, eliminating the need for new ones
2. No Single-Use Plastics: Participants should bring their own coffee cups and water bottles, as we will not provide plastic cups or bottles
3. Digital-Only Materials: All conference information, including schedules and presentations, will be accessible exclusively via a dedicated app, thus avoiding printed materials. Conference correspondence is also digital only
4. Awareness raising: information on sustainable travel will be incorporated in the workshop app
5. Virtual Rewards: Instead of physical goodie bags or material prizes, rewards will be virtual, such as free participation in our next event or audiobooks. And evaluation forms will be an online survey
6. Networking and Impact: The conference features engaging social activities to boost networking, significantly enhancing scientific outcomes and justifying the environmental investment
7. Feedback for Future Sustainability: Post-conference, we will collect feedback specifically focused on our sustainability practices. This will include a section for suggestions on how to further enhance these efforts
