About the Workshop

Comparative studies are essential for uncovering shared and divergent biological principles. Insects, with their extraordinary diversity, rich natural histories, and increasing experimental tractability, provide a uniquely powerful framework for this effort. Recent advances in genomics, transcriptomics, connectomics, genome engineering, and imaging have rapidly expanded the range of insect species that can be studied mechanistically.

This EMBO Workshop on Comparative (neuro)science in insects will bring together an emerging community of researchers applying comparative approaches across insect species, with a focus on nervous systems and behaviour. The programme will integrate diverse perspectives from developmental biology, sensory neuroscience, central brain circuits, motor control, behaviour, population genetics, genomics, and ecology.

A central goal of this EMBO Workshop is to build an inclusive and collaborative community for comparative insect (neuro)science. The workshop will provide a vibrant platform for early-career and established scientists to share findings and advances, discuss emerging principles, coordinate resources, establish collaborations, and shape future research directions.
