About the Workshop

This EMBO Workshop on Forces Across Scales will provide an integrative perspective on mechanobiology, a rapidly advancing field that examines how mechanical forces shape biological systems across molecular, cellular, tissue, and organismal levels. Recent advances in quantitative live imaging, force measurement, genome engineering, and computational modeling have enabled direct investigation of how mechanical forces regulate intracellular organization, cell fate decisions, tissue morphogenesis, and physiological function. Emerging concepts highlight how mechanical feedback operates across scales, linking molecular force generation to tissue-level mechanics and organismal outcomes, and how dysregulation of these processes contributes to disease. To foster cross-scale understanding, this workshop will bring together researchers studying molecular motors and cytoskeletal dynamics, the physical principles underlying biological systems, cell shape and movement, mechanosensing and signal transduction, cell fate and morphogenesis, as well as cell tissue mechanics in development and disease.
