About the Workshop

This EMBO Workshop on C. elegans Biology is the IV Latin American Worm Meeting. It will convene in Merida, Mexico. The overall mission of this meeting is to create an inclusive environment that provides trainees, early-career, established, and senior scientists from Latin America and around the world the opportunity to learn about the state of the art in C. elegans research and build collaborations with leading experts from across the globe.

This EMBO Workshop will serve as a platform to showcase and integrate cutting-edge research across diverse disciplines of C. elegans biology. The scientific programme will cover topics such as genetics, genomics, computational biology, germ cell biology, neurobiology and behavior, plasticity, cell reprogramming, the microbiome, stress responses, toxicology, neurodegeneration, pathogenesis, and epigenetic regulation. The goal of such a multidisciplinary programme is to foster a holistic and systems-level approach to C. elegans research.

This EMBO Workshop aims to foster equity, diversity, and intergenerational exchange of knowledge and ways of thinking. To achieve this, we have created an integrated and diverse scientific programme and dynamic networking events. The scientific programme includes lectures, flash talks, a workshop on microfluidics, and poster sessions. Keynote lectures by leading international scientists—including pioneers in microRNA biology, epigenetics, germ cell development, and aging—will be featured alongside presentations by early-career researchers and trainees. The networking activities include a discussion panel that will address challenges faced by underrepresented groups in science, mentoring activities in which all attendees will participate, and cultural visits to the city.

Because attendees will be able to meet in person, discuss their work, and form cultural exchanges, we believe that this meeting will provide all attendees with the opportunity to establish collaborations and long-term connections with leading scientists from across the globe.

If requesting travel grants or registration fee waivers, applicants must submit a one-page motivation letter along with their abstract to fourthlawm@gmail.com by 17 October 2025.

Abstract guidelines

To submit an abstract by October 17, 2025, it is not necessary to be registered. Once you are notified that your abstract has been accepted for a talk or poster presentation, you must register for the meeting no later than January 16, 2026.

Abstract body: The 2,000-characters limit refers to manually typed text and excludes spaces. If an error occurs, try using a different web browser (preferably Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox). If you copy and paste the text into the form, hidden formatting may be included, which can cause the text to exceed the 2,000-character limit and result in an error message. We recommend clearing all formatting before pasting on the text. If your text contains special symbols, make sure you are using Unicode characters; otherwise, they may not be recognized.

The title should not exceed 20 words. Only the first word should begin with a capital letter; all other words should be in lowercase.

Authors and affiliations: Please provide author details as requested in the online form. The required fields are: First Name, Last Name, Organisation Name (Affiliation or Company), Country, and Email. Please designate only one author as the First Author, and be sure to indicate who will be the Presenter.

Please enter your co-authors correctly through the system by adding their accounts along with their organization or institute. Do not copy and paste their names into the body of the abstract text, as they will not be indexed in the abstract book.

When submitting an abstract, you can apply for either oral or poster presentation. A selection process will take place, and the results will be announced by November 10, 2025.

There will be a second deadline for submitting abstracts, which will only be considered for poster presentations. However, there will not be a new deadline to apply for registration fee waivers or travel grants.
