About the Workshop

Over the past decades, this EMBO Workshop on Regeneration & Tissue Repair has become the key international meeting for scientists investigating basic biological questions in regeneration and repair using whole animals or organ/tissue "systems" approaches. This EMBO Workshop attracts scientists from all around the world, who would normally not meet, that have diverse expertise and use various research models from invertebrates to mammals. Each meeting approaches regeneration from different angles. This EMBO Workshop will focus on the cellular and molecular relationships between development, regeneration and aging, regeneration-induced immune responses, cellular behavior/signaling, the diversity of vertebrate and invertebrate research models and their shared or model-specific mechanisms underlying regeneration. This EMBO Workshop is meant to propel our understanding of the field, the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms, stimulate discussions, and foster the development of new perspectives and collaborations. The overall goal of this EMBO Workshop is to significantly advance our understanding of how regeneration is coordinated in a whole animal or organ, providing new venues and opportunities to enhance the non- or reduced mammalian regenerative capacities and develop more effective therapeutic approaches to convert healing into regeneration. The University of Vienna is the main organizer of this EMBO Workshop.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.
