About the Workshop

Cells are the fundamental units of life, shaped by evolution into a remarkable diversity of forms and functions. Much is known about the roles of genes and proteins, the regulation of molecular processes, and the physical organization of cells, but these insights have largely emerged within separate disciplinary frameworks. As a result, unifying principles that link molecular function, physical structure, and evolutionary dynamics across scales remain underexplored and elusive.

This EMBO Workshop seeks to bridge these gaps by fostering dialogue between biological and statistical physicists, and cell, molecular, and evolutionary biologists, with a focus on the evolution of cellular processes. It will provide a platform for interdisciplinary exchange on how physical constraints, molecular mechanisms, and evolutionary forces intersect to shape cellular life.

Sustainability at the meeting

The EMBO Courses & Workshops Programme assesses meetings based on the proposal and implementation of sustainability measures. Meetings can earn points across a range of measures, with each measure assigned a point value from one to five. These points classify the meeting into one of three sustainability levels, reflecting the organizers' commitment to enhancing the sustainability of their event. More information on the EMBO Courses & Workshops Sustainability Badge can be found here.

Abstract book: The workshop program will be shared in electronic form only.

Venue: The venue takes energy efficiency measures and is centrally located with good public transport connections and close to major transport hubs.
