About the India-EMBO Lecture Course

Recent years have witnessed a revolution in our understanding of how RNA binding proteins (RBPs) recognize RNAs and dynamically assemble into ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes of different scales and nature. This was made possible by the development of complementary approaches including advanced interactomics, high-thoughput RNA structure analysis, live-RNA imaging, and condensation assays. This EMBO|India Lecture Course aims at introducing the latest conceptual frameworks and methodological advances related to the molecular assembly and regulatory functions of RNP complex.

We will discuss emerging concepts of RBPs binding to target RNA at the single molecule-and network-level, how these mechanisms promote phase separation and localized translation. Furthermore, the meeting will highlight how new conceptual advances are shaping our understanding of regulatory principles involved in biological processes or disease progression across biological systems and model organisms. We will provide the students with a multidisciplinary technical background through the organization of methodological workshops and promote interactions through journal clubs and informal discussion.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.

Selection criteria

Applicants will be primarily selected based on the scientific merit of submitted abstracts and motivation letters. Priority will be given to students and postdocs.

While selecting the participants and the recipients of travel fellowships, care will be taken to ensure diversity, and in particular a good distribution of international and local attendees. Preference will be given to participants currently working in the field of RNPs, however, participants from outside the field with an interest in learning about the field will also be considered if space allows. The speakers for the available short talk and flash talk slots will be chosen based on the relevance of their work to the topic of the workshop, the submitted abstract, gender balance and geographical distribution.

Students and postdocs are expected to upload a motivation letter on how this course will benefit them and a reference letter from their PI.
