About the Workshop
Phosphatases have been considered undruggable for decades. However, recent breakthroughs with the first small molecule phosphatase inhibitors for cancer immunotherapy now in clinical trials have resulted in a dramatic resurgence of interest in studying phosphatases. This EMBO Workshop will provide a forum for scientific exchange between phosphatase researchers from diverse backgrounds. Topics span phosphatase-driven disease biology, phosphatase structure, function and regulation, drug discovery and translation to the clinic. These topics will be complemented by sessions on novel methods and system-wide approaches to study phosphatases and the integration of phosphatases in complex cellular signaling networks. The goal is to bring together researchers from academia, biotech start-ups and pharmaceutical companies to discuss advances in this rapidly growing and changing area and to move the field forward.
Satellite meeting
A satellite meeting will be held on 26 July 2025 on drug development from an academia and industry perspective. This interactive meeting is free of charge. The number of participants will be limited to 35 students or postdoctoral fellows, 6 speakers, 1 moderator and 1 chair. Priority will be given to local early-career scientists with a focus on phosphatase research or drug development. Please inform the main organizer (phosphatases2025@uni-wuerzburg) by 11 April 2025 about your intent to participate in this satellite meeting, and please state if you will present a poster

About EMBO Courses and Workshops
EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).
Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.
