About the Workshop

Recent advances in high-resolution lineage tracing technologies and single-cell genomics are allowing researchers to quantify cell state dynamics at unprecedented scales. Across cancer and immunity, studies are revealing a surprising amount of unique and heritable regulatory states, which has led to a rekindling interest in single-cell heritability and the role of cellular individuality. Researchers are now using clonal tracing to connect heterogeneity in cellular fates with precise quantities of fate determinants, discovering new mechanisms across fields. Through large scale perturbation assays, single-cell chromatin and methylation measurements, researchers are beginning to unravel the fundamental principles of cellular memory. Harnessing cellular heterogeneity will have critical impact on the biology of many diseases, including aging and cancer, and it may disrupt current means of cell manufacturing and engineering. This meeting will bring together experts that are using cellular phylodynamics approaches in different fields, such as somatic evolution, stem cell biology, cancer, and immunology.
