About the Workshop

Workshop illustration

Immune responses lie at the heart of almost every aspect of human health, including host responses to infection, autoimmunity, cancer, metabolism and aging. While adaptive immune responses by B and T lymphocytes are initiated in lymphoid organs, they frequently target compartmentalized barrier tissues such as the lung, gut and urogenital mucosa. Although there is a growing appreciation for the importance of barrier lymphocytes in tissue remodeling and defense, the mechanistic underpinnings of their development, maintenance and potential for manipulation are poorly defined. Moreover, there is clear evidence that tissue lymphocytes play by different rules compared to conventional lymphocytes. The goal of this meeting is to bring together established experts, emerging leaders and early career trainees to highlight and disseminate the most recent advances in this field. Our aim is to foster a creative and collaborative debate that will lead to new insights and models about the biology of tissue lymphocytes and how they can be targeted to prevent and treat human disease.

Transport

Traveling to Switzerland
Basel is at the center of Europe and at the border between France and Germany. Visitors can easily access Basel via its railway stations, with direct connections throughout Europe, and from Basel’s EuroAirport. A bus takes passengers from the EuroAirport to the city center in just 15 minutes. For travelers arriving from outside of Europe, Zurich airport can be reached by rail (over 75 connections a day) in just over an hour.

Traveling by public transport
Basel is a walkable city with outstanding public transportation including an extensive network of trams and buses. Hotel guests are automatically given a BaselCard, entitling them to free transport on trams and buses, WiFi access and discounts on cultural and recreational activities in the region.

About the Area

Situated at the banks of the Rhine, Basel is regarded as both the cultural capital of Switzerland and a down-to-earth city. Visitors will appreciate its relaxed atmosphere and manageable size. Whether on foot or by public transport – the Old Town, nearby recreational areas and countries just across the border are all within easy reach.

In 2025 alone, Basel will host the Eurovision grand finale, the women’s EuroCup championship, as well as ArtBasel, the most important contemporary art show in the world today. Basel is also home to the oldest university in Switzerland, founded in 1460. In the summer, swimming in the Rhine is Basel’s most popular activity. Do as the locals do - grab a colorful Wickelfisch (swim bag in the shape of a fish, invented in Basel) to keep your clothes and valuables dry as you float down the river through the picturesque Old Town. Learn more about what our city has to offer here.
