Registration for students/postdocs is free for this practical course.
Registration includes:
- Hotel accommodation (shared room) for the duration of the conference, including the night before the beginning of the practical course. Hotel rooms are pre-booked
- Daily breakfast, lunch and dinner/cocktails during the days that the conference takes place (3 November 2025 – 7 November 2025)
- Coffee breaks in between practical course sessions
- Course materials (Abstract Book, Presentation Slides, Jupyter notebooks)
- Hiking Activity on Saturday

Payment
Upon acceptance, PIs and participants from industry will receive an e-mail with payment details. The following payment options will be available: bank transfer, PayPal. Any PayPal/bank transfer fee will be on the participant.
Cancellation Policy
Applicants will be notified of their acceptance to the course by 27 August 2025.
Cancellation of attendance to this practical course must be notified at the latest by September 5, 2025. Cancellations on or before September 5, 2025 will be reimbursed. Any bank transfer fees that must be incurred to complete these reimbursements will be charged to the participant.
Cancellations after September 5, 2025 will not be reimbursed.
Selection criteria
The organizing committee will choose up to 40 students and postdoctoral fellows among the applications to attend this workshop, based on their CV, current knowledge, relevance of the course to their scientific project, and a short reference letter.
The organizing committee will also choose a limited number of PIs and industry attendees among the applications to attend this workshop, based on their CV, current knowledge, relevance of the course to their ongoing scientific projects.
Attendees of the 2023 edition of the AI4PD workshop will be given lower priority.
For the selection process, all applications need to provide:
- CV
- A Letter of Motivation explaining why they are interested in this practical course
- A 350-word abstract with their current and future research focus
A short letter of reference from their PI (students and postdocs), direct supervisor or manager (industry attendees). For PIs, this letter should be replaced by a statement about the ongoing projects that will directly benefit from the attendance to this practical course.
Registration information

The CV must be short (2 pages max) and include information about current Institution and Research, Education, Publications, Oral Presentations in Conferences, Panel Presentations in conferences, and Honors and Awards.
- The Letter of Motivation must comprise no more than 500 word and indicate your research interests and how they align with the talks and tutorials of the AI4PD workshop. The Letter of Motivation must also state that the participant will remain in Puerto Varas for the whole duration of the workshop and attend all sessions.
- A Letter of Support of their PI (students and postdocs), Direct Supervisor or Manager (industry attendees), explicitly stating if the applicant participated in the AI4PD workshop from 2023, how their travel to Puerto Varas will be sponsored (e.g., grant funding, university funds, etc) or if they will require an EMBO travel award for attending the course, and how their participation in this workshop on AI for protein design will impact their current and future research. For PIs aiming to attend this course, this Letter of Support must be replaced by a statement about the ongoing projects that will directly benefit from the attendance to this practical course.

Abstract guidelines
The abstract must be submitted in English and should not exceed 350 words (excluding authors and affiliations).
The abstract must include:
- the significance of the research problem being develop or to be developed.
- the motivation of the research being pursued.
- a brief overview of the methods being utilized.
- key results and conclusions.
The abstract must be accompanied by a statement indicating how this research will be benefitted from the use of AI tools for protein design, including the names of potential AI tools to use in the context of this course.
Poster specifications
- The dimension of each poster must not be larger than 90 cm (width) x 120 cm (height).
- Presentations should match the research information submitted in your abstract.
- Items that should be included in your poster are: Title, Author(s) name(s), Author(s) affiliation(s), a brief background to your project, your primary goals, methods, results, discussion and funding acknowledgements.
- Presenting Authors of each poster are requested to be available for answering the questions during the assigned poster session.
- A good poster should be readable from at least 1.5 meters away
- Materials for mounting posters will be provided on-site.
Travel grants and registration fee waivers
Travel grants and registration fee waivers are available for participants.
Selection of awardees is handled directly by the organizers. EMBO travel grants and registration fee waivers are allocated on the basis of the quality of the submitted abstract.
Applicants do not need to apply separately for these but should indicate on the registration form if they wish to be considered.
Additional travel grants are available for EMBC Associate Member States Chile, India, Singapore and Taiwan.
Child care grants
EMBO Courses and Workshops offers grants to offset additional childcare costs incurred by participants or speakers when participating at any EMBO Courses and Workshop funded meeting. Eligible costs include fees for a caregiver or child-care facility, travel costs for a caregiver, or travel costs for taking the child to the meeting etc. Please indicate on the registration form whether you would like to be considered for the grant. Please also describe how you intend to use the childcare grant and specify the sum that you will need.
Accessibility grants
EMBO offers accessibility grants to support participants at EMBO Courses & Workshops with any access needs. These grants cover up to 500 euros for any additional costs e.g. to adapt the conference environment, or to be accompanied by someone to assist them where necessary.
Participants with access needs may apply for a grant via the registration system of the related EMBO event, or by emailing the organizers of the related EMBO event directly.
