About the Workshop

Chromatin is the complex of DNA, RNA and protein that is found making up the chromosomes in eukaryotic cells. Chromatin is essential for proper genome function and is involved in chromosome segregation, gene regulation and DNA packaging, protection and repair. Recent explorations into the biology of non-model organisms have revealed an unexpected diversity of chromatin components and mechanisms of chromatin-based regulation. With the rapid emergence of newly sequenced genomes, investigation of the evolutionary dynamics of chromatin has emerged as a powerful and promising interdisciplinary field.

This EMBO Workshop will present the impact of genomic and proteomic data mining to reconstruct the evolutionary history of chromain, new experimental tools to explore the diversity of chromatin across a range of new model systems, and how these studies reveal reciprocal impacts between chromatin dynamics and evolution of genome architecture. For this, the workshop gathers experts in the field of chromatin and evolutionary biology in addition to experts pioneering techniques and approaches to study chromatin evolution.
