About the Workshop

The Latin American Developmental Biology Conference will bring together an interdisciplinary group of researchers with a shared focus on emerging issues in developmental biology. It will be held in the picturesque coastal city of Valparaiso, Chile, and is a shared effort of the Latin American Society for Developmental Biology (LASDB, 11th meeting), the International Society of Differentiation (ISD, 21st meeting), the Pan-American Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology (PASEDB, 5th meeting), and the Chilean Society for Developmental Biology (SBDCh, inaugural meeting). The conference will contribute to a long tradition of training students, postdoctoral fellows and young researchers in Latin America and has a mandate to promote diversity and gender balance at all levels. It will showcase research in all areas of developmental biology, including self-organisation, morphogenesis and mechanics, genomic mechanisms of development, organ and systems development, regeneration, homeostasis, ageing and Evo-Devo. With a select group of invited speakers, 40% of short talks selected from participants, flash talks, poster sessions and various social activities, the conference aims to promote active discussions in a highly dynamic and interactive environment, favouring synergies of ideas and networking opportunities.

Sustainability

SATELLITE MEETING: The international course on Optics, Forces and Development will be organised in Santiago just before the Workshop (March 5-14), to train students from Latin America. Three international speakers of the course (V. Ruprecht, B. Steventon and A. Martinez-Arias) will teach in this course, so their trip to Chile will serve for two consecutive events. In addition, A. Martinez-Arias will give a lecture open to the general public the day before the workshop.

REMOTE LECTURE: We have invited C. Extavour to give a remote lecture at the beginning of the EVO-DEVO session on the last day of the workshop.

CATERING: Only vegetarian food will be served on one of the days, ingredients will be sourced locally, and single-use wares and plastic bottles will be avoided.

VENUE: Travel between accomodation and the meeting venue will be primarily on foot.

We will provide bus transportation from the hotel to the meeting venue and vice versa only once in the morning and once in the afternoon, for those who cannot (or prefer not) to walk to the meeting venue or hotel.
