About the Workshop

Workshop illustration

Understanding how brains generate perception and drive behaviour while being energetically efficient is still one of the biggest challenges of our century. Neurons communicate via synaptic inputs which are located on thin branches known as dendrites which shape how we respond to the external world, encode memories, and generate behaviour. Recent technical developments have enabled the study of dendrites at multiple levels, from the organization and plasticity of single synaptic inputs to dendritic computations in behaviour. The goal of this workshop is to bring together international scientific leaders who work on molecular, biophysical, anatomical, computational and/or functional aspects of dendrites to further our understanding of how these beautiful structures contribute to different brain functions and their abnormalities.

With the backdrop of an informal yet spectacular setting on the Greek island of Crete, the meeting has been carefully planned to not only satisfy our scientific curiosity but also to foster discussion and encourage interaction between attendees well beyond the traditional presentations. In this spirit, the workshop will also dedicate half a day for addressing key issues of concern particularly for young researchers, especially focusing on:

  1. Mentorship across different career stages,
  2. collaboration and data sharing, and
  3. publishing.

Selection criteria

Selection will be done based on the relevance and scientific quality of the submitted abstracts, while also considering diversity/inclusivity criteria (including gender, ethnicity, and country). The organizers have extensive experience in abstract selection, having organized or been involved in organizing numerous meetings previously, as well as evaluating grants, papers, and job/graduate school applications. For this meeting, abstract selection will explicitly balance inclusivity with technical merit, impact, and scientific diversity (i.e. computational vs molecular vs physiology).

Abstract guidelines

Abstracts should describe the latest work on molecular, biophysical, anatomical, computational and/or functional aspects of dendrites to further our understanding of how these beautiful structures contribute to different brain functions and their abnormalities.

Abstracts should be no longer than 600 words plus references. There are no formatting requirements. Please use the online submission system and copy-paste your text in the specified locations.

Poster specifications

Poster size A0 - The poster board dimensions are 1.80 m (height) x 1.20 m (width).
