About the Practical Course

Super-resolution light microscopy (SRLM) is a dynamically evolving field of biomedical approaches. The knowledge of these approaches enables scientists to apply the suitable type of SRLM to their own research projects.

The main goal of this course is to practically demonstrate a broad variety of SRLM methods. During the course, a majority of available SRLM systems will be demonstrated and available for hands-on experience. Leading experts of the field will present their research and methodology. Many opportunities for discussions and social networking will provide a unique and highly efficient environment to support sharing of skills and knowledge. This promotes establishing of contacts and communication channels within the in-field scientific SR community.

The focus of the course is on the practical part with a lot of hands-on sessions supported by theoretical lectures and complemented by presentations of ongoing scientific projects presented by leaders of the field.

Selection criteria

  • motivation letter
  • brief professional CV including a brief description of their experiences in the light microscopy field
  • poster abstract (only for in-person participants): description of their own scientific project(s)

Motivation letter: should resonate with the expected impact of acquired knowledge. It means how the new techniques would boost up the ongoing projects or help to adopt the new techniques to the imaging facility.

CV: short structured CV refers to the scientific/professional history and includes the routinely used techniques in microscopy.

The important criteria will be the motivation and expectations from which we can estimate a potential impact of the course to the projects or carrier of the candidate.

Abstract guidelines

The abstract will be accepted in English language and the word limit is 400 words.
The abstract describes the project and/or should clarify the methodical approach, mainly the methods of microscopy.

In cases where the candidate does not have a scientific project (facility staff or company members), the poster abstract should describe ongoing techniques or approaches frequently used in their lab.

Poster specifications

Maximal dimension for the poster is A0:

Height: 841mm, width: 1189 mm

Travel grants and registration fee waivers

Travel grants and registration fee waivers are available for participants.

Selection of awardees is handled directly by the organizers. EMBO travel grants and registration fee waivers are allocated on the basis of the quality of the submitted abstract.
