About the Workshop
This EMBO Workshop will highlight the latest discoveries in structural and membrane biology along with a view to the future of how to tackle questions of higher complexity. Membrane proteins functionalize biological membranes, and given their significance are implicated in many disorders. Single particle analysis in electron cryo-microscopy is having a major impact on our understanding of membrane systems, and the meeting will present large energy-converting complexes of mitochondria and chloroplasts, ion channels, transporters and protein translocases. Alongside presentations of biological results, there will be methodological advances. This EMBO Workshop will combine recent progress in single particle analysis and tomography with subtomogram averaging, which allows for the structure determination of proteins in native membranes or in membrane biomimetic systems. Advances in molecular simulations and high-speed atomic force microscopy to visualise dynamics will also be presented.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops
EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).
Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.
