About the Workshop

This EMBO Workshop will discuss cell fate decisions during the transition from pluripotency to lineage commitment in early development, the interactions of stem cells with their niches during lineage specification, and the spatiotemporal control of cell identity during the differentiation of somatic lineages and the germline. The complex multi-tissue interactions in embryoids and organoids will be discussed as experimental models for the understanding of patterning in the embryo, tissue morphogenesis and organogenesis. Mathematical modelling approaches will address how quantitative physical principles can help understand cell decision making. New insights into regenerative biology will be presented by investigating responses to tissue damage or loss and the developmental kinetics leading to aberrant phenotypes.

The time table with Europe/US time is available here.

This EMBO Workshop was made possible by funding provided by The Company of Biologists.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.

Registration

  • Registration Deadline
  • 26 March 2022
  • Abstract Submission Deadline
  • 19 March 2022
  • Chosen Participants Will Be Notified By
  • 26 March 2022

Registration includes:

  • Attendance to all workshop presentations, discussion sessions and post-meeting access to recorded presentations.

Selection criteria

The planned participant number of 230 makes it unlikely that we would need to restrict access for this virtual meeting. Registration will be available through an online portal.

Oral abstract selection:

Abstracts will be selected for short talks on the basis of scientific impact, taking into account the career stage of the presenter (we wish to encourage participation by early-stage career scientists), with the aim of balancing topic area, geographical locations and gender.

Poster session:

The poster session may be changed to a “5 min flash talk” session, with the length of the session depending on the number of applications.

Selection will be done by members of the organising committee.

Abstract guidelines

The abstracts should contain the following information:

  • Title of abstract
  • Authors (presenting author underlined)
  • Affiliations of authors
  • Body of abstract: 1 paragraph, citations and references are not allowed
  • Abstract should not exceed 150 words

Child care grant

EMBO Courses and Workshops offers grants to offset additional child care costs incurred by participants or speakers when participating at any EMBO Courses and Workshop funded meeting. Eligible costs include fees for a caregiver or child-care facility, travel costs for a caregiver, or travel costs for taking the child to the meeting etc. Please indicate on the registration form whether you would like to be considered for the grant. Please also describe how you intend to use the child care grant and specify the sum that you will need.
