About the Workshop

Redox reactions are central to all life. It is therefore unsurprising that organisms have evolved numerous strategies to monitor and respond to different cellular redox species. Central to these processes are redox-regulated proteins, which respond to specific redox species via oxidative post-translational modification of defined cysteine residues (thiol oxidation). Protein thiol oxidation is increasingly recognised as an important regulator of many physiological processes whilst aberrant regulation may play a key role in many different pathologies.

This EMBO Workshop will bring together researchers employing a broad range of methodologies and model organisms to understand mechanisms and targets of protein thiol oxidation as well the relevance of thiol oxidation for organismal physiology and pathology.

Selection criteria

The scientific organisers will select conference participants on the basis of:

Scientific content of the abstract; outstanding abstracts will be selected for short oral presentations.

Number of participants from the same lab.

Abstract guidelines

Abstracts should be a maximum of 200 words in length (with up to 3 references)

Several abstracts will be selected for oral presentations (please indicate your preference for oral or poster presentation).

Poster specifications

Poster boards allow for A0-sized posters (1189 x 841 mm).

Travel grants

A limited number of travel grants are available for participants. Applicants should send a motivation letter and their CV by email (g.schon@mx.uni-saarland.de). Selection of awardees is handled directly by the organizer who will notify all eligible participants. More information is available at EMBO Travel Grants' page.

Specific travel grants and fee waivers are available for participants of any nationality working in laboratories in Chile, India, Singapore and Taiwan. To apply, please send an email directly to the meeting organisers justifying your request.

Child care grant

EMBO Courses and Workshops offers grants to offset additional child care costs incurred by participants or speakers when participating at any EMBO Courses and Workshop funded meeting. Eligible costs include fees for a caregiver or child-care facility, travel costs for a caregiver, or travel costs for taking the child to the meeting etc. Please indicate on the registration form whether you would like to be considered for the grant. Please also describe how you intend to use the child care grant and specify the sum that you will need.
