About the Workshop

The biogenesis and maintenance of cellular organelles requires sophisticated biological machineries to target proteins to, and translocate them across, their corresponding membranes. Research to date has provided fantastic insights into the molecular mechanisms of an impressive variety of prokaryotic and eukaryotic transport machineries. However, key questions regarding the molecular structures, regulation, and dynamics of these protein transport complexes remain unsolved. Our workshop will focus on the up-to-date advances in our understanding of protein transport, relying heavily on cutting edge techniques. This EMBO Workshop will provide a platform for young and established researchers to enjoy excellent talks, contribute to vivid discussions, and enjoy superb networking opportunities.

Amongst others, the following topics will be discussed:

  • Proteostasis of ER proteins
  • Unusual aspects of protein transport pathways
  • Protein import into peroxisomes
  • Translocation of proteins in chloroplasts
  • Structural aspects of import machineries
  • Mitochondrial biogenesis
  • Secretion systems

This EMBO Workshop was made possible by funding provided by The Company of Biologists.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.

Selection criteria

If we will get more applications than the site capacity, participants will be selected on the basis of the submitted abstract. The following criteria will be followed:

  • Subject related to workshop topics
  • Priority to young group leaders, postdoctoral fellows, and advanced PhD students
  • Representative distribution of gender and geographical location
  • Priority to participants who can cover topics that are not dealt with by invited speakers
  • Minimal number of representatives from the same laboratory

All selected participants will be requested to present a poster. In addition, a number of abstracts will be selected for either short talk or flash poster presentations.

Abstract guidelines

The Abstract should contain the following information:

  • Title (no longer than 20 words)
  • Authors and affiliations (the presenting author should be underlined)
  • Text (150 – 200 words)

Upon submitting an abstract please indicate whether you would like your abstract to be considered for oral presentation.
