About the Workshop

This EMBO Workshop is intended to cover the most recent work on the different aspects of the biology of a group of axial progenitors, often referred to as neuromesodermal progenitors (NMPs), that play a fundamental role in the development of vertebrate embryos. We will stimulate discussions on the normal development and regeneration potential of these cells by bringing together a diverse group of researchers studying the activity of NMPs in a variety of animal models with those developing robust protocols to induce NMPs from pluripotent cells of mouse and human origin, as well as methods to further direct them towards specific cell lineages. An additional important goal for this workshop is to include researchers working on biological processes or cell-types exhibiting features that might suggest involvement of NMP-like activities, despite the fact that this cell-type is not the primary focus of their research. We expect this EMBO Workshop to act as a catalyst for interactions among researchers working in a variety of experimental paradigms in order to expand our knowledge of NMPs and their potential for regenerative medicine approaches in humans.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.

Payment

Payment of workshop fees will be possible both by bank transfer and PayPal. Details will be provided to the selected participants together with the acceptance letter.

A number of travel grants will be available for early stage career participants.

Selection criteria

Participants will be selected mainly on the basis of the interest of their abstract in the context of the broad theme of the EMBO workshop. We have 14 speaker slots available selected from abstracts, aiming at establishing a balance in representation across the different areas covered in the workshop. We seek to have around 50 precent representation from students and post-doctoral researchers as well as good representation of the international community while maintaining gender and geographic balance.

Abstract guidelines

The abstract, written in English language, should not exceed 350 words and include the aims of the work, the key findings and their significance.

Participants who are not submitting an abstract should explain their motivation to attend the workshop.

Child care grant

EMBO Courses and Workshops offers grants to offset additional child care costs incurred by participants or speakers when participating at any EMBO Courses and Workshop funded meeting. Eligible costs include fees for a caregiver or child-care facility, travel costs for a caregiver, or travel costs for taking the child to the meeting etc. Please indicate on the registration form whether you would like to be considered for the grant. Please also describe how you intend to use the child care grant and specify the sum that you will need.
