About the Workshop

The EMBO Workshop Axons 2021: Structure and Function will be going ahead on the 2–6 October 2021!

Axons are fundamental to information processing in the nervous system, yet remain enigmatic in many basic aspects of their structure, function and plasticity. This EMBO Workshop aims to bring together current leading and early-career (EC) researchers with students, to share and discuss their work in diverse fields of axon biology. Interactive sessions will feature the fields of axon physiology, biophysics, structural biology, cytoskeletal dynamics, neuron-glia organization, activity-dependent reorganization, and axonal disorders. Combining speaker sessions with poster presentations, networking activities and social events will ensure that junior researchers and established scientists share and exchange the latest fundamental insights within a stimulating interactive environment

We are doing everything we can to make this a live on-site meeting, in which remote participation also will be made possible via an online platform. Currently, we strongly encourage you to register quickly and to indicate whether you plan to attend in person or virtually. No fees are payable at the present time, but registrations for in-person attendance are limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis and subject to eligibility criteria outlined in detail below.

The workshop is organised as a hybrid meeting allowing on-site and virtual participation. Developments of Covid-19 and international travel restrictions are monitored and we will make a final decision in due time as to whether the workshop will be –as a last resort– fully virtual. In the latter scenario, on-site registrants will be refunded up to the amount for the virtual registration fee. Make sure you sign up for updates and follow us on Twitter @EMBOaxons2021 for all the latest information!

Selection criteria

Register quickly! All applicants, both on-site and virtual, will be evaluated according to a first-come first-serve basis as well as the scientific excellence assessed from the CV. Priority will be given to those who will present their recent work in the on-site or virtual poster sessions and assessed according to the scientific quality of the abstract and interest of the work they intend to present.

Selection for short on-site talks:

Applicants willing to be considered for a short talk must be early career researchers (not yet lead a research group). The selection will be based on the combination of submitted abstract and CV, with care taken to align these presentations with the overall scientific scope of the meeting. Priority will be given to on-site applications for a short-talk.

All selection decisions will be taken by the organizing committee. In these decisions, the committee will ensure that disciplines, career stage (where appropriate), geographical location and gender will be balanced as much as possible.
