About the EMBO-FEBS Lecture Course

Ageing is accompanied by a continuous decline in the capacity to maintain organ homeostasis and regeneration. Driven by the increasing interest in the field of ageing and regeneration as well as recent discoveries and progress in this area of research, we consider it important to bring the field of ageing-associated organ dysfunction, stem cells and regeneration to the attention of young scientists. The latter will be brought together with leaders in the field who have contributed to breakthroughs in our understanding of ageing and regeneration using different animal models. The format of this EMBO-FEBS Lecture Course, including talks, tutorials, discussions and poster presentations creates a unique opportunity to improve knowledge about ageing and regeneration as well as obtain an insight into scientific careers and foci of the research labs of the speakers and the participants. All selected poster presenters will be able to present their poster in a 2 min poster flash to all participants and speakers of the course.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Ageing models
  • DNA damage repair and ageing
  • Key signalling pathways in regeneration and ageing
  • Metabolism & ageing
  • Regeneration in non-vertebrates and vertebrates
  • Senescent cells in ageing and regeneration
  • Stem cell ageing

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.

Selection criteria

This Joint FEBS-EMBO Lecture course is aimed at PhD students and post-docs. Selection will be based on previous experience, motivation, relevance of the course for the current project or career development. Please provide a short motivational statement and a scientific CV when registering.

Abstract guidelines

Please provide a 300–500 word abstract detailing your research work.

Poster specifications

Every participant will have the opportunity to present a poster. In addition to the poster sessions we will have flash talks/poster teasers. Please prepare a two minute poster teaser/flash talk to invite other participants to your poster. You can use one slide presenting the aim of your study preferentially just schematic or one highlight result. Regarding the poster presentation please prepare either one non-animated power point slide or a pdf in landscape format. The font size should be equivalent to Arial 8 or higher.

Best posters will be awarded with a poster prize. Poster prize winners will be given the opportunity to present their research with a short talk (10 min + discussion).

Registration Fee Waivers

A limited number of registration fee waivers are available for participants, who present a poster. Applicants do not need to apply separately for fee waivers for this event. Please indicate on the registration form if you wish to be considered for a fee waiver and justify the reasons for it.

The EMBO registration fee waivers are allocated by the organizers on the basis of the quality of the abstract submitted, with priority given to participants of any nationality working in laboratories in: Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey, as well as from EMBC Associate Member States Chile, India, Singapore and Taiwan.
