About the India-EMBO Symposium

Understanding the functioning of genome-wide regulatory networks that control cell identity and cell fate decisions remains one of the key challenges in molecular biology. With the advent of various NGS methodologies for quantitatively characterizing the internal states of cells genome-wide, many large-scale epigenomic datasets have become available in recent years, and there is an urgent need for developing new computational analysis methods for integrating such data into predictive models of regulatory networks. The main objective of this EMBO India Symposium is to bring together a collection of top international and Indian researchers from interdisciplinary backgrounds that are leaders in this field, to discuss the key current biological and methodological questions, to foster new interdisciplinary collaborations with Indian researchers from quantitative backgrounds, and to inspire young Indian researchers and students to enter this field and pioneer new methods. This EMBO India Symposium will focus on all aspects of gene regulatory dynamics from analysis of regulatory sequence motifs, transcription factor-DNA interaction, local chromatin dynamics and epigenetic modifications, RNA dynamics at the level of transcription and post-transcriptional processing, to 3D dynamics of chromatin and the resulting gene regulatory dynamics on daily and development time scales.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.

Selection criteria

All applicants are required to submit a short motivation statement explaining why the symposium will be useful to them. Students and postdoctoral fellows will additionally need to submit a supporting letter from a PI that they work closely with. Applicants are also invited to submit abstracts for posters.

If you wish to be considered for poster presentation, first apply using the above link, then submit an abstract by logging in to the registration system and clicking on the tab "Abstract submission"

Selection of the participants and posters will be made by a committee consisting of the organizers and a selection of external experts, based on the submitted motivation statements and letters. We welcome participation from universities beyond the elite research institutes in India, and from other developing countries.

A total of 60 applicants will be selected for attendance, and 30 poster abstracts will be selected. Selected poster presenters will also get a 1-minute oral presentation slot.

Abstract guidelines

The abstract should be between 1000 and 3000 characters, excluding title/authors/affiliations but including references. The description of the work should convey why presenting this work is relevant to the theme of the meeting.

Poster specifications

A1 (594 x 841 mm), portrait format

Additional Information

Registered participants at all levels of seniority will be accommodated 2 per room as part of the registration fee. There will be an option of paying for a single room, for which the venue will provide special rates, subject to availability.
