EMBO YIP Meeting 2017

17 – 19 May 2017 | EMBL, Heidelberg

About the Event

The annual EMBO Young Investigator Meeting provides members of the programme with a forum to network. Young Investigators present their research, and informal discussions offer an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences.

The meeting comprises short talks from all attendees, lots of time for networking, and a dedicated session to learn more about the Young Investigator Programme and provide input on its activities. A discussion session on research assessment practices is also being organized. Optional training workshops will take place on the morning of 17 May.

All current and former EMBO Young Investigators and EMBO Installation Grantees are invited to participate. In addition, EMBL group leaders are welcome to attend.

Our venue is at Operon at EMBL.

Lunch on 17th will be served at Operon Foyer. Lunch on 18th and 19th will be at EMBL canteen, you would need to show your badge at the counter.

There will be a shuttle booked for you every morning, leaving at 8:30 from Villa Toscana to EMBL.

Transport

There will be no group pick-up from the airport. Please organize your own transfer!

1. Frankfurt International Airport is the closest (about 80 km) and most convenient airport for Heidelberg.

The easiest way to get to Heidelberg from Frankfurt International airport is by train: there are two railway stations at Frankfurt Airport with routes to Heidelberg as follows:

  • The long distance trains leave from the Fernbahnhof every 20-30 minutes and are the faster (55 minutes) but more expensive option (25 euro one way). It takes about an hour with one change in Mannheim central station. Taxi from Heidelberg central station to hotel will cost you around 16-18 euro and take 20-25 minutes.
  • The regional trains leave from the Regionalbahnhof and are slightly cheaper (17 euro) but slower (1,5 hours). You must usually change at Frankfurt main station.

2. Further airports around Heidelberg:

  • Frankfurt Hahn Airport is a small airport west of Frankfurt International Airport. It offers cheap air fares. There are shuttle buses running to and from several cities. Travel time from and to Heidelberg is approximately two hours.
  • Baden-Airpark is a small airport near Baden-Baden. It offers cheap air fares and can be reached easily by car being situated close to motorway A5 (Basel-Karlsruhe). Travel time from and to Heidelberg is approximately one hour. How to travel by train & bus from and to Baden-Airpark.
  • Stuttgart Airport is an international airport. It offers cheap air fares and can be reached easily by car being situated close to the motorway A8 (Munich-Karlsruhe). Travel time from and to Heidelberg is approximately an hour and a half. How to travel by train from and to Stuttgart Airport.

About the Area

Heidelberg is a university city situated on the river Neckar in south-west Germany. Located about 78 km (48 mi) south of Frankfurt, Heidelberg is the fifth-largest city in the German state of Baden Würtemberg. Heidelberg is part of the densely populated Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region and is known for its institutions of higher education. The most famous of those is Heidelberg University. Founded in 1386, it is one of Europe's oldest institutions. In addition to the research centers and institutes of the university, there are numerous research institutions situated in the city of Heidelberg.
