About the Workshop

The modulation of chromatin structure and function is the basis of epigenetic regulation. The replacement of replication-coupled histones in the nucleosome by histone variants is still one of the least understood aspects of chromatin regulation. Advances in recent years have made clear that histone variantsplay a pivotal role in development and cancer. We will discuss the latest molecular insights into how histone variants are regulated and how they execute their epigenetic function.

This workshop is the fourth of a focused series on histone variants, and will be organized in a virtual format, given the current health situation affecting travel and our ability to congregate in large numbers. It was previously planned for a hybrid virtual and in-person format, which will be reflected in any earlier information shared about the event. This workshop will consist of 140 participants connecting online. We have planned the workshop program to make this virtual format as interactive and intimate as possible for participants.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.

  • Access to 'e-poster' sessions and a variety of networking activities.
  • On-demand view of recorded lectures during and after the meeting.
  • Electronic abstract book.

Payment

We accept bank transfer and credit card payments.

Selection criteria

Participants will be selected on the basis of submitted abstracts. Selection criteria include:

  1. research excellence
  2. novelty of science
  3. relevance for the histone variant field

We will prioritise researchers who are at key transition points in their career.

Abstract guidelines

Please indicate all authors and their short affiliation (Institution, City, Country), a title and short text describing your research. Please limit your abstract text to a maximum of 250 words. Selected participants will present an e-poster or a short talk. Please indicate on the abstract submission form if you wish to be considered for one of the short talks by choosing "oral presentation".

Poster specifications and short presentations

In addition to short talks, we will select participants to present in the e-poster session. Selected presenters will be asked to prepare a maximum of 5 slides for a 5-minutes short presentation instead of a poster. All participants will provide a recording of a 1-minute teaser with 1 slide that we will make available to all participants prior to the start of the workshop.

Travel grants

When the workshop was still planned to have a hybrid virtual and in-person format, a limited number of travel grants were awarded:

4 European travel grants of 375 Euros. Priority was given to researchers from Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey as well as other EMBC member states with lower income economies.

Two overseas travel grants of 1000 Euros for participants from Chile, India, Singapore or Taiwan.

(The travel grants have been converted into fee waivers for virtual attendance.)

Please justify your need if you wish to apply for any of these grants. Selection of awardees is handled directly by the organizer, who will notify all eligible participants. More information is available at EMBO Travel Grants page.
