About the Workshop

This EMBO Workshop in Japan will feature Single Cell Biology which is now bringing about big impact not only on life science but also on healthcare. The Human Cell Atlas aiming to elucidate the human body at cellular-resolution level is progressing in the world. Projects to analyze tissues from various diseases with single cell technologies are progressing in Japan and Asia, towards accurate diagnosis health care and new drug discovery.

The workshop covers all topics in single cell biology including cancer biology, computational biology, development biology including ageing, imaging, new technologies, and single cell immunology. leading experts in each topic will give lectures and discuss the latest findings. In addition to the invited speakers, oral talks and poster presentations will be chosen from the submitted abstracts. The meeting will bring together biologists, clinicians, bioinformaticians, from academic, medical and healthcare industries and facilitate discussions and knowledge sharing on recent research advancements in single cell biology.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Payment by credit card is preferred, but, wire transfer to bank in Japan is possible.

Conference Dinner

Dining cruise at Tokyo Bay by samurai warship replica. See website for the information.

Ticket cost for the cruise is 10,000 JPY. Please apply through the registration website.

Selection criteria

Oral speakers will be selected by Scientific Committee of the workshop.

Abstract guidelines

• Abstracts must be written in English and should be submitted via websystem.
• Presenter of the abstract should register and pay the registration fee for the workshop prior to submit abstract.
• Each registrant can submit only one abstract.
• All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee. You will receive an email to confirm that your abstract has been accepted and whether it will be an Oral or Poster presentation by 25th April 2019.
• Several slots are available for oral talks. Please refer the program on website.

Poster specifications

Poster boards are 84.1 cm WIDE and 118.9 cm TALL.

Travel Grants

A limited number of travel grants are available for participants.Please contact to the secretariat (EMBO_SCBJP@ml.riken.jp) via e-mail, if you wish to be considered for a travel grant. You need to complete the registration and payment prior to apply for the grant. Specify your Registration ID in the application and explain briefly why you should be considered for the grant in the e-mail. Selection of awardees is handled directly by the organizer who will notify all eligible participants. More information is available at EMBO Travel Grants’ page.

Child Care Grants

"Application for Travel Grant is closed”

EMBO Courses and Workshops offers grants to offset additional child care costs incurred by participants or speakers when participating at any EMBO Courses and Workshop funded meeting. Eligible costs include fees for a caregiver or child-care facility, travel costs for a caregiver, or travel costs for taking the child to the meeting etc. Please contact to the secretariat (EMBO_SCBJP@ml.riken.jp) via e-mail, if you would like to be considered for the child care grant. Specify your Registration ID and also describe how you intend to use the child care grant and specify the sum that you will need.

Accommodation

Several hotels are available around the venue.

Transport

The venue can be reached by frequent and reliable public transport system in Japan.

Three minutes walk from "Tokyo International Cruise Terminal U-18” Stationon "Yurikamome” line (Shimbashi Station <-> Toyosu Station). Please note the station name was changed recently from "Fune-no-Kagakukan” station.


Option 1: From Narita International Airport to Odaiba via Narita­ Airport Limousine bus (1 hr 40 min). Then walk 10 minutes to the venue.
Option 2: From Haneda International Airport to Odaiba via Haneda­ Airport Limousine bus (50 min). Then walk 10 minutes to the venue.

Note: wide range of alternative and safe transportation options such as subways and trains are also available.

About the Area

Odaiba a popular shopping and entertainment district on an artificial island in Tokyo Bay. It originated as a set of small artificial fort islands (Daiba literally means "Fort"), which were built in the end of the Edo Period (1603-1868) to protect Tokyo against possible attacks from the sea and specifically in response to the gunboat diplomacy of Commodore Perry.
