About the Workshop

The evolutionary emergence of organelles was a defining process in diversifying biochemical reactions within the cell, enabling multi-cellularity. However, compartmentalization also posed a great challenge which is the need to import proteins synthesized in the cytosol into their respective sites of function. While decades of research have set down the fundamental principles of how proteins get from the cytosol into specific organelles, recent studies have brought forward new pathways and additional regulators enabling better definition of the rules governing substrate recognition and targeting. This EMBO Workshop aims for a comprehensive understanding of the molecular mechanism of protein translocation.

About EMBO Courses and Workshops

EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).

Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.

The hotel has a very powerful, high coverage WiFi connection, which will be offered to all participants free of charge.

Transport

By car

Hotel Eden Roc is well connected by national road and motorway: both the N-II and the AP-7 link with the C-31 road, which leads to Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Once arrived in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Hotel Eden Roc is located at the southern end of the town.

By train

The nearest RENFE train station is in Girona, 35 km away. The AVE high-speed train arrives from numerous cities in Spain and France.

By bus

Sant Feliu de Guíxols is connected to Girona, Barcelona, and the rest of the important towns of the Costa Brava by regular interurban bus lines.

By plane

The Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO), about 31 km away, is a small airport that connects Girona with all of Europe practically every day, thanks to low cost flights. On the other hand, the Barcelona Airport (BCN), at 119km, is the closest international airport with daily flights to the whole world.

About the Area

Hotel Eden Roc has an unbeatable location on the Costa Brava: on the rocks on a peninsula south of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, completely surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, peace and tranquility.

This location facing the sea makes the climate very pleasant throughout the year, with temperatures that do not fall below 10º in winter, and do not exceed 30º in summer.

The hotel is located less than 1 km from the town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a charming town traditionally dedicated to fishing and nowadays more focused on trade and tourism. Sant Feliu preserves a beautiful old town with narrow streets and historic buildings (such as the Romanesque monastery with its Porta Ferrada from the 10th century).
