About the Workshop

Cell death is intricately linked to immunity in animals and plants. Cells dying in response to injury or infection trigger immune responses within the tissue microenvironment, which activate host defence and tissue repair mechanisms but can also cause tissue damage and disease. Recent advances in the field highlighted the role of cell death as a central process in immune regulation and implicated different pathways of cell death in the pathogenesis of inflammatory and degenerative diseases.

This EMBO Workshop will bring together scientists interested in cell death and its role in immunity, inflammation and disease pathogenesis. Topics of interest will include fundamental mechanisms of cell death regulation and sensing with particular focus on common principles across the animal and plant kingdoms, the role of different types of cell death in organismal physiology and pathology, as well as current concepts targeting cell death-related processes in disease therapy.
