About the Workshop

BacNet19 will continue in frame of a highly successful conference series and further consolidate the BacNet series as a major international meeting in Europe that attracts leading researchers and young scientists working in the field of molecular microbiology with a special focus on signaling and regulatory networks in bacteria. The majority of cellular functions, such as stress response, information processing, and behavioral control, are executed by complex networks. However, our understanding how these networks operate together within a cell, and how they are adaptable for populations and multi-species communities is still very limited. BacNet19 will cover most recent advances in research on signaling and regulatory networks in bacteria, and help to shape this rapidly developing field in Europe and worldwide. Progress in the field requires interdisciplinary approaches, combining the tools of molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics and computational analyses. Advances in the field hold great promise to revolutionize our understanding in bacterial physiology, pathogenicity, ecology and evolution, and will also contribute to the design of networks used in biotechnological and biomedical applications. BacNet19 will bring together 160 participants, including 27 invited speakers. BacNet19 will offer young researchers ample opportunity to present their work and to discuss it with leading scientists.

Selection criteria

Previous BacNet meetings have been over-subscribed and early application is therefore encouraged. Please submit an abstract describing the work to be presented. In total, 19 abstracts will be selected for oral presentations.

Applicants will be selected according to research interests, affinity to the field and recent exciting work. Additionally, a fair gender balance will be considered and significant regional bias will be avoided.

Abstract guidelines

Please provide a title, list of authors and the affiliation.

The abstract should not exceed 2,000 characters (including title and affiliation)

Poster specifications

Please bring one printed copy of your poster; Poster dimensions should correspond to portrait DIN A0 format; Dimensions are: 1189 mm x 841 mm (46.8 in x 33.1 in)

Travel grants

A limited number of travel grants are available for participants. Applicants do not need to apply separately for travel grants for this event but should indicate on the registration form if they wish to be considered for a travel grant. Selection of awardees is handled directly by the organizer who will notify all eligible participants. More information is available at EMBO Travel Grants' page.

Child care grant

EMBO Courses and Workshops offers grants to offset additional child care costs incurred by participants or speakers when participating at any EMBO Courses and Workshop funded meeting. Eligible costs include fees for a caregiver or child-care facility, travel costs for a caregiver, or travel costs for taking the child to the meeting etc. Please indicate on the registration form whether you would like to be considered for the grant.
