About the Conference

The DNA damage response (DDR) is a complex signaling network including cell cycle checkpoints, DNA repair and DNA-damage tolerance pathways. The DDR is affected by, and impacts on, many cellular components and processes, including chromatin structure, DNA replication, transcription and cell cycle progression. Failure to properly respond to DNA damage leads to genomic instability, an underlining cause of various human syndromes and also associated with many age-related diseases, particularly cancer. Notably, it is becoming clear that the DDR is an attractive therapeutic target for cancer and other disease areas. This EMBO Conference will cover all the above topics in ways that will link detailed molecular mechanisms of the DDR and associated processes to human ageing, disease and therapeutic applications.

The venue for the EMBO Conference is Grecotel Cape Sounio, a resort off the coast of Attica with stunning views of the legendary Temple of Poseidon. The resort is located within 40-60 minutes from Athens Airport (by car/bus) and can accommodate a maximum of 160 participants.

The EMBO Conference will start with lectures at 19h00 on Monday, 2nd October and will end with breakfast on Friday, 6th October.
Bus transportation will be organized from Athens Airport to Cape Sounio on Oct. 2nd (noon, 3 pm and 5 pm) and to the airport on Oct. 6th (8 am 10 am and 1 pm), more details will follow.

About the Area

Situated directly opposite the hotel (3 km away) and visible from anywhere on the conference site, stands one of the most acclaimed archaeological sites in Europe and the second most important ancient Temple in Greece: The Temple of Poseidon, the Ancient God of the Seas. This added a unique backdrop to the previous meetings. We will organize a similar trip to visit the Temple, which in the past provided networking opportunities among participants.
